Replacement throttle and shift cable 8M0082489 is 16 feet long with the Generation I connections.  It's easy to determine the length and connection type of cable you need by reading the length and part number on the existing, original cable connected to your control and engine.  Or, measure the path from the control to the engine throttle/shift attachment point along the unobstructed cable route.  Add 18" for outboard installations.  These cables are built for long life and maximum performance in all weather conditions to below zero Fahrenheit.  They employ layered technology structure to create a smooth operating, durable control cable.  Remove old or damaged cable and replace new cable in reverse order.  Easy to do with common tools.  Throttle and shift cable cannot be repaired, only replaced.  It's time to replace cables when there is excessive free play or stiffness felt at the control.  Replace the cable when you see chafed, broken, bent or loose parts.  Do not lubricate core.  Avoid tight or sharp bends for installation.
